St Mary’s Catholic School, Wellington is the proud recipient of a $5000 grant under the Federal Government’s Local Schools Community Fund.
Federal Member for Calare, Andrew Gee, made the grant announcement on Wednesday, at the school’s beginning-of-year assembly.
The funding will be put towards the construction of a shade structure to go above the school’s developing agricultural plot.
Principal for St Mary’s, Leanne Clarke, said the injection of funding into this project was a wonderful way to commence the school year.
“Our agricultural plot is an exciting new project that will benefit many of our students. The installation of a shade structure will allow students and staff to maximise it to its full potential,” Mrs Clarke said.
Mr Gee said the funding was terrific news.
“St Mary’s Catholic School Wellington is a pillar of the Wellington community, with its origins dating back over 100 years. I’m delighted that the school could receive this funding boost to kick off the school year, and for such a worthy project,” he said.
Under the Local Schools Community Fund $200,000 was made available to each electorate which schools could apply for.
Applications were then assessed by an independent panel, consisting of the local Federal MP, along with a representative from an independent, Catholic and government school.
