About Andrew

Andrew Gee has been representing and delivering for the people of Calare for more than a decade, as both a state and federal MP. He was elected as the State Member for Orange in 2011 and Federal Member for Calare in 2016.

Born in Wagga Wagga, raised in Maitland, and living in Orange since 2005, he understands the issues that are important to regional communities.

Andrew is passionate about ensuring that country people and country communities get the services and infrastructure they need and deserve.

He has fought to ensure our residents have the same access to health care as those in the city, and delivered key achievements including new and upgraded hospitals, MRI licences for our country hospitals, better access to radiotherapy treatment and a 24-hour rescue helicopter service.

As a father of four, he knows the importance of quality education for students in regional Australia and he led the campaign for the CSU Medical School, which is now open and teaching our next generation of country medical professionals.

Andrew understands that world-class infrastructure is critical to building a stronger Calare, and he has delivered billions of dollars in funding for major road upgrades, new community facilities, and more than 40 new mobile phone towers across the electorate.

Andrew strongly supported our community through the drought, the Black Summer bushfires, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the recent storm and flood disasters.

During the bushfires he provided constant support at all hours of the day and night to communities on the frontline of the crisis.

During the COVID-19 lockdowns he and his office initiated Calare Community Care, where working with local community groups and service clubs over 5,000 vulnerable residents were checked in on.

Since December 2022, Andrew has served the electorate of Calare as an Independent.

Prior to the 2022 election, Andrew was the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel. Sworn in on 2 July 2021, Andrew worked tirelessly to improve the lives of our nation’s veterans, Defence personnel and their families, through legislative reforms and hundreds of millions of dollars in additional funding. Andrew secured $96 million for more staff and other measures to cut the claims backlog in the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Previously, he held the roles of Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Education, and Minister Assisting the Minister for Trade and Investment.

Andrew will continue fighting for the people of Calare in Canberra, and use his position in Parliament to ensure our region has the education opportunities, jobs, economic growth and infrastructure to thrive.
